Café/Restaurant

Project status: Survey 2004
Client: D. Zimmermann Corp.
Team: smo architektur
Location: Jülich, Germany
Area: 650 m2
Costs: 1.200.000 €

The city of Jülich stands for culture. With its 2000 years of eventful history, it doesn’t only look back into the past, but also, due to its modern research center, specifically into the future.
Our design for the café-restaurant at the pond, outside the former fortress ring vis-à-vis the new town hall, mirrors this attitude. The progressive and dynamic building orients itself towards the pond, and by its sculptural expression forms an ensemble with the surrounding green space. The café, situated on the ground level, offers a popular, central meeting point. In contrast, the big hall on the upper floor, with its distinctive atmosphere and special panorama, makes an adequate setting for any festivity.
